My own glove of choice is mittens because they are

My own glove of choice is mittens because they are warmer than gloves, I can put hand warmers inside on my fingers and they look cute.

Skiing with toddlers is super hands on and big mitts or gloves get in the way…

So I either use very thin gloves or I take my gloves off and intermittently put them back in my mitts (with hand warmers) to warm my hands back up again. 🔥

I really believe that we are here living this moun

I really believe that we are here living this mountain life to have the most fun possible, not to be the best skiers possible.

I get that these kinda go hand in hand, but I start my kids skiing very young, NOT so that they can be amazing skiers but more so that they can experience maximum freedom on skis as early as possible.

I didn’t experience skiing to Links current level until I was around age 10 years old! I just feel like it’s an amazing gift to give my children to be able to play on the mountains like this in their first 5 years of life.

If you’re a toddler in the French Alps you start maternelle (nursery) school the year that you turn 3. From there you can expect your outdoor sports sessions to be alpine skiing, cross country skiing and snowshoeing during the winter.

👶🏼 Sharing your passion with them.
👶🏼 Showing them that skiing is fun!
👶🏼 Riding the magic carpet together.
👶🏼 Letting them experience the movement of skiing.
👶🏼 Being outside together.
👶🏼 Her seeing what Mummy loves to do.
👶🏼 Her learning to trust me to keep her safe on adventures.
👶🏼 Her knowing that she is important to this sport too.
👶🏼 That she knows what skiing really is and she gets excited to come back again.

⚠️ Don’t go skiing with a baby in a baby carrier or back pack, I only do this extremely slowly and carefully on closed pistes, snow roads and paths or as a means to get to where I need to go. I never actually ski carrying my baby for my own skiing pleasure and I would never recommend that you do. If you do use a baby carrier in a ski resort, monitor baby’s temperature closely.

In Europe most chair lifts have a small plastic ve

In Europe most chair lifts have a small plastic vertical bar attached that goes between the legs to help keep small children safe on the lift. Some chair lifts have this on every seat and some have just 1 or 2 on the side closest to the lift operator.

This is a great safety attachment when a chair lift is full. But when I’m getting on a empty chair with a very small child (under 4), I put the foot bar between the child’s legs to keep them extra secure, Like my little boy Link has here.

You can only do this when you have the space for your child to take up two seats. It takes a little bit of skill to line them up between two seats and some local knowledge on where to stand and what chairs work and what ones won’t.

Other ways to increase chair lift safety...

❄️ Make sure your hands are free to look after them, leave your poles behind or ask someone else to hold them for you.

❄️ Put a small harness on them with a handle on their back, this way you can keep hold of them the whole time. We use @hobbledehoo (promo code below)

❄️ Enter the lift with your child closest to the lift operators hut, they will often help them on and off if you need and even slow the chair lift down for you. Communicate well with them if you need help.

❄️ Make sure children sit back as much as possible, sit still and don’t lean forward or kick their skis together.

❄️ Always keep your skis on the foot rest to secure the bar down.

❄️ When you get close to the top, tell them that they will soon be getting off. Make sure they are sat back as far as possible and you can ask them to help you push the bar up. They love that!

❄️ When you get off the chair have 1 hand on their harness handle and the other under their armpit.

Some kids who come to my TOTSKI sessions are ready

Some kids who come to my TOTSKI sessions are ready to put the boots and skis on right away, while others need time to play in the ski environment and get to know that Tori is fun.

Both are completely ok.

I never rush a child, I want them to know that we ski for fun and I’m ready whenever they are ready, to explore what lies ahead.

This is the start of a whole childhood of skiing, it’s important that they want to come back each session and discover more about skiing.

These penguin 🐧 plastic skis are from @decathlon they are my favourite I’ve found so far.

The boots are @fischerski ONE 15.5, they have a moveable toes piece to make them smaller.

I’d reccomend toddler snow boots from @olang_official, they are super quality and offer the best support.

It was magical to watch my children’s faces as they looked out the window this morning to see the first snow of the ski season.

I need to get organised for life in the snow! Kids have new suits from @weedo.funwear.official and boots from @olang_uk arriving very soon. But I managed to squeeze them all into some of last winters kit for the moment.

As for me you will find me in @ortovox gear as always for the last 8 winters. I’ll be sharing what colour it all is very soon.

Ski time is play time and it can start at home bef

Ski time is play time and it can start at home before you even get to the snow.

Then when they put their skis on on the snow for the first time then they are feeling a sense of

‘Yes I know this’
‘I know that this is fun’
‘I’ve done this before’
‘I know how to walk in the Skis already’
‘I’m ok with wearing goggles, helmet and gloves’

and I find that they are so much more confident and eager to get going.

If you are going to try on equipment at home, it’s important to remember the helmet and like I said in the video you’re beautiful happy shining energy, so they know that this is a good fun thing.

Plastic skis are great for the first introduction to Skiing in the house and the first introduction on the snow, but once you’re out on the piste, you’re going to want to pretty quickly get them in the real ski boots and real Skis to be able to get sliding.

And one more really important thing to remember when ever they are sliding whether it’s on the carpet or on Snow you must go weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! 😂
